Rubbish removal looks like a simple service and is priced on three unglamorous variables: how much there is, how heavy it is, and how far it has to be carried.
Volume is measured in cubic metres of truck space. Weight matters because a load of brick, tile, soil or concrete hits the truck's legal weight limit at a fraction of its volume — so heavy waste is quoted differently to light mixed waste. Access is the third: material in a driveway pile loads in a fraction of the time of material in a rear shed behind a narrow side gate.
What gets collected
Household. Furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, electronics, garage and shed clean-outs, clutter from a move, garden waste.
Commercial. Office furniture, workstations, IT equipment, obsolete stock, shopfitting, filing cabinets, shelving and cardboard, including the material generated by a strip-out.
Construction and demolition. Building waste, off-cuts, fixtures, carpet, plasterboard, brick, scrap metal and clean rubble from renovation and demolition work.
Green waste. Lawn clippings, leaves, prunings, branches and bushes from a garden clean-up or a site clear.
Sorting is where the money and the landfill go
Material is separated rather than dumped as one mixed load, because mixed waste is the most expensive stream there is. Clean brick and concrete goes to a crusher for recycling into road base. Metal goes to a scrap recycler. Green waste goes to a composter. Cardboard, e-waste and whitegoods are diverted where a facility will take them. Only genuinely mixed, contaminated or non-recyclable waste goes to a licensed landfill.
That is partly environmental and partly arithmetic: recycled streams cost less per tonne to drop off than landfill does, and the saving is real on a demolition-scale load.
The line we do not cross
Asbestos does not go on a general rubbish truck under any circumstances. It has to be removed under the licensed process set out on the asbestos page, transported under its own arrangements and disposed of at a facility licensed to accept it, with the paperwork kept.
The same applies to liquids, chemicals, fuels, paints, gas bottles and clinical waste. If any of that is on the property, say so when you book. It is a solvable problem when it is known in advance and an expensive wasted trip when it is not.
Where it fits with demolition work
Almost every demolition job generates a waste stream, and on most of them the rubbish removal is simply part of the same booking. A kitchen or bathroom strip-out leaves with the crew that did it. A house demolition generates truck loads rather than trailer loads. A garage or shed clear-out is usually half rubbish removal and half demolition.
Once a block is bare, covering it with bulk mulch stops the sand moving while you decide what comes next.

How much does rubbish removal cost in Perth?
Rubbish removal in Australia typically runs between $75 and $100 per cubic metre for residential and commercial collections, and skip bin hire averages around $75 per cubic metre. Heavy waste such as soil, brick, tile and concrete is priced differently to light mixed waste, because a truck reaches its weight limit long before it reaches its volume limit.
Is a truck cheaper than a skip bin?
It depends on how well you can estimate. A skip is a fixed price for a fixed volume whether you fill it or not, and it needs somewhere to sit for the hire period — often the verge, which some councils require a permit for. A loaded truck charges for the volume actually taken. If you are unsure how much you have, the truck usually wins.
Do I have to carry everything to the kerb?
No. The crew does the lifting and carrying from wherever the material is — inside the house, down the side, out of the backyard or off the roof space. Placing everything in one accessible pile beforehand does reduce the labour time and therefore the price, so it is worth doing if you are able to.
What will you not take?
Asbestos, which must go through a licensed removalist and a licensed disposal facility. Liquid waste, chemicals, paint, fuel, oil and solvents. Gas bottles. Car batteries and tyres in quantity. Medical or clinical waste. Tell us in advance if any of these are on site so the right arrangement is made instead of the truck arriving and refusing the load.
Can you handle a deceased estate or a large clean-out?
Yes, and those jobs are scoped as a walk-through first rather than quoted over the phone. They usually involve sorting rather than just loading — items to keep, items to donate, items to recycle and items to dispose of — and that takes time. Discretion and a fixed, agreed scope matter more on these jobs than the hourly rate does.
